What is H4CBD?

Published:

H4CBD is an exotic cannabinoid that gained widespread notoriety in recent years – but this is no surprise as some claim it to be a hundred times more potent than Cannabidiol (CBD)!

This cannabinoid is by no means new – it has been around for nearly a hundred years with scientists first discovering it in the nineteen forties.  And it goes by a few other names too, like THD and H4-CBD

Simply put – H4CBD is CBD in hydrogenated form – and it is very similar to THC.  This is why the hemp-sourced cannabinoid is highly sought by those whose daily stress command the best of what the cannabis industry has to offer.

If you are new to H4CBD and want to learn what it is and what it does, join us below as we cover everything you need to know about this potent and popular cannabinoid before you try it.  And of course – if you ever have questions – feel free to send us a message any time!

What is H4CBD?

Short for Hexahydrocannabidiol, H4CBD is a synthetic cannabinoid that was synthesized by turning the double carbon bonds of CBD into single bonds.  Four hydrogen atoms were also added, with the end result being H4CBD.  This conversion process is what we refer to as hydrogenation, which is the process used to make cooking products like oil and butter.

The process used to make H4CBD is significant as the chemical reaction that occurs turns the original cannabinoid into a much stronger one, in this case, H4CBD!  This means it is a more potent cannabinoid than CBD – to which – it is an entirely unique/distinct compound.

What does H4CBD do?

Little is known on what properties makeup H4CBD, but based on the anecdotal evidence we do have, we can safely say H4CBD has a very strong affinity to CB1 neuroreceptors in the brain, and more so than CBD, which has none to very little attraction to this receptor.

It is this reason HC4BD users often report effects like those of CBD but ones that are much more pronounced, and psychoactive activity not experienced with traditional Cannabidiol.

Is H4CBD Psychoactive?

This synthesized cannabinoid can feel much more psychoactive than CBD, but not nearly as much as traditional THC.  It might produce a gentle euphoria as it binds strongly to CB1 receptors – unlike CBD – which does not produce a euphoria or binding to these receptors.

H4CBD vs. CBD – How do they Compare?

CBD and H4CBD have similar traits but are distinct to the other in their molecular structure as for H4CBD to be created, it must first undergo a synthetic, molecule-changing chemical process.  And according to one study, this alteration lets H4CBD bind with CB1 receptors a hundred times as strongly and efficiently as typical CBD!

H4CBD vs. Delta-9 THC

No doubt, H4CBD is a potent cannabinoid that might bring intense, elevating, psychotropic effects that last many hours, due to its high affinity to CB1 receptors that influence how we feel.  However, it is unfair to compare it to the league-of-its-own cannabinoid known as D9 THC, which binds to CB1 receptors with much greater effectivity.  This said, most who use H4 CBD tend to contrast its effects to those of minor cannabinoids and low-THC products.

H4CBD Potency

This cannabinoid is highly psychoactive in comparison to CBD but not so much in contrast to THC.  Nonetheless, H4-CBD is a stronger, game-changing cannabinoid for those coming from CBD, with most claiming it to be three/five times as potent in its psychotropic effects!

Molecular Structure

As its name implies, H4-CBD is an altered form of CBD, and created by cannabis scientists who add four hydrogen atoms atop the CBD molecule in a process dubbed hydrogenation.  This is the same process used to make the margarine or vegetable oil in your pantry, hence why H4-CBD is technically a synthetic, unnatural cannabinoid that exists due to scientists who strived to procure a stronger-than-CBD byproduct from the hemp plant – that they did!

What is H4CBD Used for?

This synthetic cannabinoid is coveted and explored for the range of therapeutic benefits it is believed to have.  As shared above, it is thought to be CBD on steroids as it brings similar effects but ones of higher potency.  This we can attribute to its hydrogenated nature, which makes it stronger and more useful at relieving things like pain, anxiety, and even insomnia, and this it does without causing psychoactive effects as intensely as traditional marijuana.

This is why H4CBD is growing more popular by the day among relief seekers who want to reap the health and therapeutic benefits of cannabinoids but without the intense high or side effects of THC.  Its uses and applications may expand even more as further research on its effects and benefits come to light, but one thing is clear, and that is it is much more potent than CBD, and will bring a more relieving and elevating experience for its indulgers.

H4 CBD Products and Availability

Despite being new to the scene of exotic cannabinoids, H4-CBD is a highly popular one among extractors and manufacturers who now sell H4CBD in many products, including:

  • Oils.
  • Tinctures.
  • Distillates.
  • Concentrates.
  • Vape cartridges.
  • Edibles/gummies.

H4CBD Effects and Properties

As a newer compound with little research on it done, it is not easy to speak on its effects or properties – nor on the ways it works inside the body – as these things are still being learned by scientists.  But based on countless online reports from people who take it, the effects of H4CBD are like those of 2:1 CBD/THC products.

This means a CBD user who begins taking H4CBD will enjoy stronger, therapeutic benefits, and a mild touch of euphoria that can take the edge off a long, tiring, stress-filled day.  This makes it an ideal cannabinoid for those who want relief without the stoned effects of THC.

As more is learned about H4CBD, we at Express Highs will update this page to keep you in the loop on new findings and developments, but until then, you can think of this compound as being extra potent CBD with a sprinkle of THC-like effects.  If you have been taking CBD a while, and could use something with a little more oomph, H4CBD is the right call for you!

Final Thoughts

For those who require relief from issues like anxiety or insomnia or inflammation, CBD will likely get the job done, yet people who want to address chronic conditions, or more severe issues, will likely need something a bit more robust and powerful.  In such a case, H4-CBD would be the better of the two cannabinoids as it is stronger and more capable of bringing relief – and with a hint of euphoria that makes for blissful relaxation at the end of long days.
