You’ve stumbled into Express High’s blog about cannabis and the culture around it. Almost no crop shares as deep a culture as cannabis. Perhaps grapes, tulips and apples could compete, being used as currency or precursors to alcohol, however all of these things have escaped prohibition on an essentially global scale while almost universally governments have treated cannabis like it is worse than other highs such as alcohol. Funny enough, the populace almost universally has rejected this notion, choosing instead to believe weed to be a safer alternative to other stimulants. Because of this, Marijuauna has created an underground culture, still very much under the gaze of intense scrutiny. Just like the name “weed” suggests, the culture has flourished where it was never intended.
Thousands of years ago traditional farmers, “Hashishans,” from the middle east in places like the Hindu Kush region (sound familiar?) sieved fields of flowers into hash that was easy to transport, trade and enjoy. These are the roots of everything that still occurs today. The culture is still very much an agriculturally based one, where high end breeders and growers are known for their work.
In places like Amsterdam, California, Canada etc. where weed is part of the modern fabric of life and has been for decades, the culture is less secretive and more of a party. There’s a certain look that is somewhere between a psychedelic clothes explosion and hip hop culture that is fairly typical of the crowd who shows up at things like The Cannabis Cup.
Perhaps the richest and most fun aspect of the culture is being able to visit different places with different strains. For instance, it’s well known that California is the home of the OG, the UK is known for Skunk, Northern Lights is a Canadian strain. Users can travel so to speak within these strains and experience the highs from different parts of the world. Incredibly they can even go back to the Hindu Kush region, 1000 years ago, as those genetics are still pretty common over that way and visit the old hash makers’ work.
Like most cultures that are taboo, cannabis culture thrives today like it has for thousands of years. In fact it seems to be flourishing. Check out the rest of Express High’s content and shop. Stay lifted.
